As of the census of 2010, there are 7,795 people residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city is 92.3% White, 1.1% African American, 0.8% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.8% from two or more races. 3.7% of the population is Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,590 households with an average of 2.86 persons per household. The median income for a household in the city is $50,279 and the median home value is $122,400. Per capita income for the city is $21,320. Approximately 86% of the population has a high school diploma with 20.6% holding a bachelor’s degree or higher.
The former settlement of Lickskillet was incorporated in 1881 as Oak Grove. Back then, it consisted of approximately 40 acres with a population of 280. Today, the Oak Grove City limits have expanded to include over 3200 acres (5 square miles) of land and encompass parts of Lafayette County as well as Jackson County. There are several new housing developments being constructed with others in the planning stages.
